Bill Maher calls U.S. soldiers "rapists"
Let the spitting and the name calling of our U.S. soldiers begin. If we don't have a liberal President who wants to make soldiers pay for their own treatment of war injuries, then we got liberal Hollywood calling our brave men and women in uniform "rapists". Thanks liberal left for showing your hand on how you really feel about us who serve and have served.

I've learned that giving these guys anymore publicity is just what they want. That's why I no longer do anymore Ann Coulter or anyone like her post.
They get publicity of of saying things of shock value.
I see you mentioned Obama too, I won't even get started with veterans care the past eight years, because the past is the past.

i laugh at how y'all on the left love to criticize the health care treatment that veterans received during the past eight years but then get on your hands and knees and beg Obama to give you the same kind of treatment the veterans got. "oh please Obama, socialize our health care and run our hospitals just like the VA!"

On your other post, I said I really don't think either system of health care are current or socialize is working.
So I am not a fan of either. I just try not to get sick.
I also noticed you did not deny the Vets were treated like shit in the VA hospitals under Bush.
@ Flavor ... oh trust me, i know what government run anything is like so i don't doubt the horror stories that come out of VA hospitals. but that isn't just under Bush. that's also every previous administration. sorry for painting with the broad brush too. i do know that you are one of the most level headed friends from the left that i debate with.

I agree that the rapist joke was all for shock value, but some people like that in a comedian. Some like angry comedians like Lewis Black, and some like more calm ones like Nick Swardson, but it's just a style of joke and nothing more. I have friends in the armed forces, and have even lost friends in the armed forces, and even they understand it wasn't "troop bashing". It was a joke. To some, perhaps tasteless, but that's sometimes how people write their comedy. I've heard far more tasteless jokes aimed at liberals.
The thing is, whether you like his joke or not is irrelevant. So he implied soldiers were rapists. Do you realize he was playing dumb? He was acting like a stereotype from Hollywood war films like Full-Metal Jacket and Platoon were 100% true-to-life, when we ALL know that isn't the case. I'm sure that you and I are both on the same page that our honorable men who defend this country aren't rapists. He's not too stupid to realize that himself. He was being sarcastic. He's always sarcastic.
On a side-note, did you watch the rest of the video? You were citing that video as evidence of an attack on our soldiers, when the video wasn't even about the soldiers themselves, but the US policies on deploying them. It was about how we still have soldiers stationed in nations all over the world, mainly nations we were at war with half a century ago. He was making a statement about how if any other country were to do that to us, conservatives would be the first to object. You and I both know that's true as well. How would you feel if after the Gulf War, Sadam Hussein kept a small base of soldiers stationed in the US just to keep an eye on us because it was "in his best interests" to watch the people he was once at war with?
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want it either. This is our country and I don't want foreign soldiers monitoring it from the inside like that. The problem is that we shouldn't hypocritically expect other countries to be okay with us doing precisely that. So maybe his joke was harsh and a bit off-topic, but it certainly got your attention, didn't it? That's all he wanted. I've watched the guy before, and he lives for that attention-grabbing shock value.
I also saw a link to an article that said they'd like to see him go tell that joke to one of our military bases and see who's the coward. For starters, those soldiers aren't the target audience of his comedy. First rule of public speaking is to know the audience and design your language and content to appeal them. As for the coward comment, if you've ever seen Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, you'd know that he doesn't care who you are, he'll tell you exactly what he feels to your face. The problem is that saying a joke that even I will admit was distasteful (one joke of an otherwise solid statement, I personally wish he left that joke out, but I digress) to a room full of people who would find it even more distasteful wouldn't make him brave. It would make him an idiot. :-/ I'm not about to make a joke about African-Americans to a room full of African-Americans... good way to get your ass kicked or worse if you ask me. That's not cowardice. That's logic. I wouldn't go to a Young-Republican meeting on a college campus and start cracking jokes about their politicians and policies. That's rude. The fact that he hasn't said these jokes to their faces only means he has the forethought to keep it to the audience that likes it, which is his narrow HBO following.
I would like to state for the record that I don't watch his shows. I also don't personally agree with all his policies, and am proud to have my own opinions on things. I am merely stating the rudeness in using one bad joke to define and invalidate the entire message of a speech, as well as the image of a person. Everyone has done something stupid at some point or said something they shouldn't have. I am sure you have to. The thing is, you don't have cameras on you day and night to prove it to the rest of the world. I don't characterize your entire being and persona based on your few mistakes throughout your life. And to quote the greatest book ever written, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." No truer words have ever been uttered. Are you telling me that you have never done anything that could possibly offend anyone, even if it was only meant as a joke? How about Fox News? Are they so divinely, perfectly innocent of this too? The truth is, no. It isn't the first and it won't be the last time someone said something tasteless in a public forum. Both sides will be on the pedestal saying stupid, tasteless jokes before you know it. The trick is to not let it get to you.

Just because you don’t see it on your faux news stations doesn’t mean the rest of the world doesn’t see what your dirty pig soldiers do. Killing, civilians, children, raping and torture. That’s not heroic it’s inhumane, America knows much about that.
